Growth Expectation in AFRICA
The working-age population in Africa is expected to increase by some 450 million people between 2015 and 2035, according to a joint report by the World Bank Group, the World Economic Forum and the African Development Bank. One major source of new jobs will be the digital economy. In 2016, the digital economy was worth $11.5 trillion, or 15.5% of global GDP. It is expected to reach 25% in less than a decade, far outpacing the growth of the 'traditional' economy.
The African Continental Free Trade Area, which went into force in May, finally signed Africa’s largest economy on Sunday. Nigeria President Muhammadu Buhari agreed to the landmark deal at the African Union summit in Niger after four years of negotiations.
The IMF in a May report described the free-trade zone as a potential “economic game changer” of the kind that has boosted growth in Europe and North America.
From a very humble beginning in Greece, the founder of the Group moved to Belgium in the 50’s and established the Headquarter in Brussels in 1962.
